| How To Run Disk Defragmenter |
| This process can take from ten minutes to eight hours. So it is good to run this shortly before you go to sleep and let it run through the night. While this is running close all other applications, and if possible any anti-virus software. If you do shut off your antivirus software we STRONGLY recommend that you disconnect your computer from the Internet. The reason for closing antivirus software would be to make “Disk Defragmenter” run faster. |
| To open “Disk Defragmenter” from your start menu go to “Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools” then click “Disk Defragmenter” |
| The following window will open. |
| Now that “Disk Defragmenter” is now open make certain that “(C:)” has been selected. It is under “Volume”. This has been highlighted in a red box in the picture below. |
| Next, Click the “Defragment” button. Which has been highlighted with a yellow box in the picture above. |
| ”Disk Defragmenter” will now begin defragmenting your computer. This is the part of the process that could take up to eight hours. Though it typically only takes one. |
| Optional Step: Once your computer is finished defragmenting, the following windows will appear, you may click the View Report button as shown above to see a report of the defragmentation If you are not interested in seeing the report, click Close |
